Cruise Lines

Ocean Cruise

Cruise lines of all sizes depend upon RebelRoam to deliver superior Wi-Fi experiences to their passengers and crew whether docked, anchored, or cruising on the open ocean.

Ocean Cruise Connectivity

There will never be enough bandwidth onboard to meet all the demands from passengers, crew, and operations.  You must, therefore, maximize the effectiveness of the available connections.

Satellites

High throughput GEO satellites suffer from high latency, limited coverage areas, and finite capacity.

LEO satellites promise to cover the entire planet and deliver high throughput with much lower latency.  Starlink is online, but its capacity will be quickly exhausted as evidenced by over subscription across much of North America.

5G Cellular

5G cellular connectivity offers fiber-like connections in port and near shore where cruise ships spend most of their time.  Cellular is excellent as a backup to satellite and as a cost-effective supplemental connection in crowded anchorages and ports.

RebelRoam SIM Cloud management allows us to provision local cellular providers for faster connections and lower cost.  Clients never concern themselves with SIM cards because RebelRoam SIM Cloud management automatically reassigns SIMs as ships transit different cruising grounds.

For more information on how to maximize GEO, LEO and 5G cellular connections, see Connectivity Integration.

Network Optimization

Given that demand has always proven to exceed capacity, intelligent control of the data moving over whatever links a ship connects back to land yields the best user experience.

RebelRoam’s RebelRocket DNS Filter and RebelRocket Streaming CDN (Content Delivery Network) ensure that bandwidth is never wasted because unwanted or unnecessary data was moved to or from a ship.

For more on how to keep unnecessary traffic off your Wi-Fi network, see Network Optimization.

River Cruise

River cruise operators face unique challenges.  Bulky satellite antennas are not practical in urban destinations.  Cellular providers target populated areas, not rivers, which often results in weak signals or intermittent service.

RebelRoam delivers superior connectivity to passengers and crew by improving connectivity to cellular towers and keeping unnecessary traffic off the link.

LEO Satellites

LEO satellites promise to deliver high speed and low latency.  Starlink is online, but its capacity will be quickly exhausted in congested areas such as city docks. Starlink’s limited capacity has resulted in over subscription across much of North America.

5G Cellular

5G cellular connectivity offers fiber-like connections and combines efficiently with Starlink.

RebelRoam SIMCloud management allows us to provision local rather than regional SIMs for faster connection speeds and lower cost. Clients never touch SIM cards because RebelRoam SIM Cloud management automatically reassigns SIMs as ships move from country to country.

Network Optimization

Given that demand always exceeds capacity, intelligent control of the data moving over satellite and cellular links lowers costs and yields the best user experience.

RebelRoam RebelRocket DNS Filter and RebelRocket Streaming CDN (Content Delivery Network) ensure that bandwidth is never wasted due to unwanted or unnecessary data going between ship and shore.

Expedition Cruise

Expedition cruise lines face the most challenges of all cruise operators when attempting to communicate from polar regions.  That is why more and more cruise lines choose RebelRoam to optimize passenger and crew Wi-Fi traffic.

Expedition Connectivity

Passengers and crew do not care about the technical characteristics of satellite service near the poles.  They want access to all the social media and sites they use on land.

Even with LEO satellites like Starlink, there will never be enough bandwidth at the ends of the earth to meet all the demands from passengers, crew, and operations.

Network Optimization

Given that demand will always exceed capacity, efficient use of the available bandwidth is critical.   RebelRocket takes intelligent control of the data moving over the satellite connection resulting in superior user experiences.

RebelRoam RebelRocket DNS Filter and RebelRocket Streaming CDN (Content Delivery Network) ensure that bandwidth is never wasted due to unwanted or unnecessary data going between ship and shore, creating more capacity for what the people want.
